It’s hard to believe that with this coming draft, it will mark the 5th year since Chris Paul was drafted by the New Orleans Hornets in the 2005 NBA Draft.

When the Hornets took Paul, they cleared up any point guard questions their team could have. He has developed into arguably the best point guard in basketball.

This particular card is not numbered, and is by no means unaffordable, but its colors make it an interesting subject.

Chris Paul was a star in college at Wake Forest.

I can just imagine what Jose Canseco might be saying here. I won’t say it out loud though. I don’t want to upset Mark McGwire that much right now.

Really though, look at the color scheme here. Is there one? Is this the first insert with a rainbow scheme? Wow! Yikes!

This was one of the first insert sets. Back in the 1980s, there weren’t a ton of inserts, so pulling these is somewhat fun. I’m going to have to post more interesting color cards.

I’m not a big fan on non-sports figures in card sets. However, this card is interesting to me. Maybe it’s because he’s the first black president, I don’t know.

Some people might think he’s a liar. Some might think he’s a savior. He’s not a sports star, so I don’t really have a big opinion on him.

So that’s pretty much where I’ll end talking about this Barack Obama card. But I did want to share it with you all.

Kevin Durant 2007 / 2008 Topps Orange

I’m a sucker for orange, I can’t help it. The brightness of orange can turn around a day in a second. At least if it’s a sunrise and not a construction cone.

This insert into 2007 / 2008 Topps featured only rookies. I believe it was a retail specific insert and they came in a bonus pack in a blaster box.

Either way, to pull a Kevin Durant made my day and I had to share it with you. Marvel in the beauty of this former-Texas, now-Oklahoma star.

I truly do miss random sports cards. There’s no room for them anymore with all the products being pumped out by the major companies such as Topps, Upper Deck and Panini, but a guy can always wish right?

Anyone else eat Jimmy Dean sausage biscuits just because they put baseball cards into their box? Those little breakfast sandwiches were actually pretty good and I still eat Jimmy Dean products. I’d say it was a successful campaign.

The card featured here was from a Hostess box, and what a great player! Ken Griffey Jr. is definitely a legend. Also featured in that set were Roger Clemens and Cal Ripken Jr. What’s better than getting a box of cupcakes with free sports cards? Not much.

1999 Bowman’s Best: Rookie Class – Football Card

The 1999 Rookie Football class is featured on this card. Some of the players featured are Donovan McNabb, Edgerrin James, Torry Holt, Ricky Williams, and Champ Bailey.

I’d like to see this card come out every year. It would be worth collecting to me.

Greg Ostertag 1993 KU Athletic Department

Being a Kansas fan is my reason for owning this card. I had to give the big man some love. Greg Ostertag was a rare 7-footer in his days with the Jayhawks. He was a bit slow, but was unmovable in the paint. He was often overshadowed by Bryant Reeves who was a Big 8 rival playing for Oklahoma State at the time. Ironically, Reeves is the one in the shadow in this image.

Joe Torre 2008 Topps 50th Anniversary All Rookie Team # AR75

Joe Torre manages the Los Angeles Dodgers and is a former Major League Baseball player for the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves, New York Mets, and the St. Louis Cardinals. After retiring, he has managed all three teams.

Torre also managed the New York Yankees from 1996-2007 reaching the playoffs every year and winning an astonishing ten American League East Division titles, six American League pennants, four World Series titles, and overall compiled a .605 winning percentage.

Torre currently ranks 5th in all-time managerial wins in the majors. He is surely a future hall-of-famer.

The card feature here shows Joe catching as a rookie for the Milwaukee Braves. Seeing the skipper now and seeing a card from his young years is interesting enough for a mention on the blog.
